SEISMIC LOAD
AND WIND CALCULATIONS
DSI CONSULTANTS HELPS CONTRACTORS MEET THEIR SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS
DSI Consultants assist general contractors, subcontractors and manufacturers when it comes to seismic and wind calculations. Seismic Risk Assessment and Mitigation and Wind calculations on non-structural components is a requirement under the National Building Code of Canada.
At DSI Consultants, we provide seismic and wind restraint design to help limit movement of components and transfer forces safely to the building structure.

Standards and requirements
DSI CONSULTANTS EXPERTS IN HIS FIELD
In accordance with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), non-structural elements and components of buildings and their connections to the structure must be designed and installed to withstand an earthquake, building deformations and wind loads.
Non-structural components include, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical equipment, architectural components, piping, ventilation ducts, cable trays, conduits, etc.
In some cases, those systems must stay operational during and after an earthquake, such as in hospitals, fire-stations, police-stations etc., and therefore shall be properly restraint and anchor to the floor using seismically rated anchor.
At DSI Consultants, we have developed an expertise in seismic and wind calculations and have a team of designers and engineers ready to help you with your seismic and wind restraint design.
Seismic quote
DSI CONSULTANTS offers a complete solution
Drawings and restraints layout location are provided for each of your projects, allowing you to better plan and optimize your seismic installations.
Too often the installation of seismic components on mechanical and electrical components requires atypical solutions. Our team of engineers are more than qualified at finding practical and cost-effective solutions.
Worksite visit
SEISMIC INSPECTION, site VISIT AND sign-off
DSI Consultants also offers inspections and certification of your seismic installations.
Site visits allow our team to identify any complications and address them appropriately.
After our visit, a report is then sent to you to help you make the necessary adjustments. At the end of the project, a sign-off is provided.
Our team is made up of several engineers and technicians who will help you and be present throughout all your projects. At DSI Consultants, we make customer service a priority.
Equipment certification
DSI CONSULTANTS WORKS WITH EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER
DSI Consultants works with manufacturers in regards to equipment and products seismic certification. With the help of FEA (Finite Element Analysis), DSI Consultants can minimize your laboratory tests, shake table testing, and optimize the design of your products.
To perform a seismic analysis, a 3D Cad will be required. DSI Consultants will use this 3D Cad to determine if the equipment structure (frame) will not fail and if the stress will remain below the yield strength of the material.
If the equipment doesn’t need to stay operational, a shake table testing is not mandatory and a simple Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can be carried on.
DSI Consultants will work in partnership with your team to help you qualify your equipment and find an optimal solution.
